CASE STUDY 1 - NOTTINGHAMSHIRE COUNTY COUNCIL ROAD SAFETY TEAM - Bookmark Promotions.

A recent campaign by Nottinghamshire County Council Road Safety Team to raise awareness amongst older people yielded some telling results!

This simple yet effective word puzzle certainly attracted the attention of the public. It was advertised in a magazine for the elderly, on leaflets and through CCP Promotional Library Bookmarks.

Well over half of all the correct returns received were from bookmarks (58.7%), while magazines and leaflets between them generated little more than one fifth of the all responses (22%).

Team Manager, Pam Shaw, was
“pleased with the results” and has since run other successful campaigns on bookmarks. The ‘World Cup’ campaign about not playing football in the streets was so popular with students that teachers were asking for more!

CASE STUDY 2 - EASTERN WAKEFIELD PRIMARY CARE TRUST - Press Card Bookmark Promotion.

Heart Attack Presscard Bookmark

Press Release, dated February 11th 2003:

Take heart this Valentines Day – you could save your life.
It’s timely - and it could prove vital in preventing heart-ache. A little credit-card sized card is appearing in libraries across the Wakefield district this Valentines week which could save a heart - and a life.

The pop-out card carries vital information on what to do if you suspect you may be having a heart attack. It lists the symptoms that may be felt and advises on the best course of action.
"The message is don’t be afraid of raising a false alarm – it’s better to be safe than sorry", said Ann Marie Johnson from Eastern Wakefield Primary Care Trust. "Prompt action in a possible heart attack situation can save your heart and your life."
Twenty thousand of the cards - which pop out from bookmarks -are being made freely available in all libraries from this week across the Wakefield and Pontefract area.

"We are all used to carrying vital bits of card around in that size so I thought everyone would be willing to add another one. All the other similar-sized cards from credit companies or stores may enhance your live – but this one could save it," said Ann Marie who is in charge of the PCT’s Coronary Heart Disease programme.
This is the first time in this country that this health message has been put on a library bookmark.
The reverse of the bookmark lists the IT facilities available at libraries. It was sponsored by pharmaceutical firm, Pfizer at no cost to the NHS.

CASE STUDY 3 - SAFER LANCASHIRE WEBSITE - Bookmark Promotion.

Press Release:

SAFERLANCASHIRE WEBSITE - OVERVIEW

In May 2001 the Lancashire Crime and Disorder Chief Officer Group agreed to support the development of a Community Safety Website in Lancashire on behalf of strategic and local partnerships. At that time almost all the Lancashire community safety partnerships did not have specific community safety web presence. The SaferLancashire website www.saferlancashire.co.uk was developed to provide space for each partnership and link this together with information from other strategic and local partners such as the Constabulary, County Council, Youth Offending Team, Drug Action Team, Magistrates Courts’ Health etc.

The site is organisationally neutral and provides a gateway to:-
- Generic information and advice for the public on community safety.
- Information provided by all fourteen Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnerships (CDRPs). Each have their own web page or link where a website already exists, which includes details of their local community safety strategy and audit documents, crime reduction initiatives and contact details and much more.
- Specific details of agencies working together to reduce crime eg Lancashire Constabulary, YOTs, DATs, Fire & Rescue Service, Health, Service etc.
- Local support Networks i.e. Crimestoppers
- Links to Regional, Government, Voluntary Organisations and other external sites

The key purpose is to provide information to the public and interested bodies, but there is also a restricted area for partners to disseminate and exchange information, to house guidance, inform on funding opportunities etc (Members Access Area).

The initial development of this project was jointly funded by Lancashire County Council and the Regional Crime Reduction Director. There is no direct cost to the CDRP in the sites’ further development, however each partnerships is responsible for future development of their own pages/links and continued support is provided through the SaferLancashire Website Project Manager, Lancashire County Council

The SaferLancashire website was launched in July 2002 by the Lancashire Chief Constable and Dr Ruth Henig, Chair of the Association of Police Authorities. The website has been recognised regionally and nationally as an example of good practice and was featured in the Crime Reduction College Digest – April 2003.

STATEMENT -

As part of ongoing promotion and publicity for the SaferLancashire Website in conjunction with Central Community Press Ltd.(The Bookmark People) 20,000 bookmarks have been produced for circulation in all Lancashire Libraries, funded by Lancashire County Council.
The SaferLancashire Website Project Manager, Pam Smith said "We in Lancashire are proud of the immense expansion of the SaferLancashire website since its launch in July 2002. It is a clear, comprehensive and easy to use site and provides a host of community safety advice and information to both the public and local Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnerships. Evidence to date reveals that the Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnerships and the general public are making hits within the site averaging about 40,000 per month................. Each hit is a direct gateway to the Crimestoppers contact number and the National Crimestoppers Website. Working together with our partners is an effective way to reduce crime and the fear of crime in the community."
